Faculty Publishing Guide: ORCID

This guide is intended to introduce ORCID and how it can assist in increasing scholarly impact.

Integration between HeinOnline and ORCiD

Works from HeinOnline are visible on your ORCiD author page, and works on your ORCiD author page will appear on your HeinOnline Author Profile.

Why is this important?

Authors who do interdisciplinary work, publish in journals outside of traditional law reviews, or have published books need an ORCiD record to make sure these works appear in their HeinOnline Author Profile. "[B]y creating and adding publications to their ORCID profiles, law scholars can now elect to have their books, interdisciplinary works, and many other works appear in HeinOnline which US News is using as the data source for their scholarly impact ranking." -- https://wisblawg.law.wisc.edu/2020/08/28/law-scholars-can-now-add-books-interdisciplinary-works-to-hein-through-orcid-integration-what-this-could-mean-for-the-us-news-scholarly-impact-ranking/

If you do not have an ORCID iD, you can create one through your HeinOnline Author Profile page. To find your HeinOnline Author Profile Page, do a simple author search using your name in HeinOnline, and select the link.

You should find a button to "Register or Connect your ORCID iD" on your Author Profile page in HeinOnline. Select the button to create your ORCID iD  If you do not have a "Register or Connect your ORCID iD" button, you will need to enhance your Author Page. Go to HeinOnline's Author Portal for more information.

Select "Register now" and fill out the fields.

Finally, authorize HeinOnline to fully integrate with ORCID. You will need to verify your email.

Back at your Hein Author Profile, you should see your new ORCID iD. Select "Send Works to ORCID" to send your list of articles to ORCID.
