Integrating Library Resources into Blackboard

It's easy to add library content to your Blackboard courses. If you need help, don't hesitate to contact a librarian. For more information on what we can do to support you, see our Faculty Services Guide.

If you want students to use e-books or articles from the library's online resources, you can link to the material in Blackboard. However, just copying and pasting the URL usually won't work. Instead, you need to take two steps:

  1. Find the permalink for the resource from within the database. This allows you to provide a link that all your students can view and that will not be subject to link rot.

  2. Add the proxy information in front of the link, so that the resource may be accessed from off-campus.

Step 1: Find and Copy the Permalink

Some examples of what they might look like:

From LexisNexis Digital Library:

From HeinOnline:                          screenshot of permalink button in Hein

Step 2: Add the Proxy

The library uses EZProxy to authenticate students from off-campus. Most links to articles and e-books won't work off-campus without a proxy link in front of them (the exceptions are the library catalog and databases that require personal logins, such as Westlaw, Lexis, and Bloomberg).

Add the proxy link to the front of the permalink URL: https://proxy.campbell.edu/login?url=

For example:

If a database gave you the permalink:
https://heinonline.org/HOL/P?h=hein.journals/duljo68&i=1

add the proxy code to the front to get:
https://proxy.campbell.edu/login?url=https://heinonline.org/HOL/P?h=hein.journals/duljo68&i=1

Linking In Blackboard

Once you have a URL, it's easy to place it in Blackboard:

  • copy the URL as described
  • open Blackboard in Edit Mode, and either create a new or use an existing content area (menu item).
  • within the content area, go to the "Build Content" menu and select "Web Link."

Add to Blackboard

Then, just add the link to the URL field that pops up and assign it to a spot within your class pages!

Research Guides

Our Research Guides are tailored to different subject areas and classes. These guides help connect your students to relevant library resources and would make a great addition to your Blackboard course site. If you don't see a guide that suits your needs, talk to your liaison about collaborating on a new research guide for a subject area or class.

You can link to any one of our existing research guides in Blackboard using the friendly URL found at the bottom of each LibGuide (proxy information is not necessary).
